Remembering the Life of Poet Gil Scott Heron

Gil Scott Heron, 62 passed away Friday in New York City leaving behing a legacy of poetry, spoken word and music that has been said to have been the beginnings of rap. 

One of his most memorable pieces “Bottle” could be characterized as a self-fulfilling prophecy, as he publicly struggled with substance abuse problems which actually landed him in jail in the ’00′s.

At this time it is unknown what the cause of death actually was.

Bernice King Leaves Eddie Long’s Church After Settlement

The daughter of late civil rights giant, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Bernice King has stepped down as elder of the New Birth Missionary Church headed by scandal-ridden Bishop Eddie Long.

The Bishop was accused of sexual misconduct in suit brought by 4 former attendees of the church and its Longfellow Academy, a school run by the church for boys.  The suit has been settled with no details on actual financial remuneration.

Sean Kingston in ICU After Jet Ski Accident

The guy who heroically jumped into the water to save Sean Kingston says the singer was spitting up blood after his jet ski accident Sunday evening — but that Sean was responsive and even spoke during the rescue, according to TMZ:

Saturday Love

I hardly ever blog on the weekends. But, today is different. I have some much needed mommy time, it’s raining real pretty, and I have a hot cup of 8 treasure tea in front of me. Plus, I just released something real big.

I make no secret about the fact that I am 41 years old. I go back to it again and again, because at my age, I can embrace some good things about myself. Two of those good things: I love real hard. And, I can let go.
