A South African woman was arrested in a Bangkok airport after trying to smuggle cocaine in her hair.
Nobanda Nolubabalo, 23, was searched by police after they noticed a white substance in her dreadlocks. The police found 3.3 pounds of cocaine with a street value worth about $145,000. She admitted smuggling the drugs and said she was to deliver them to a customer at a Bangkok hotel.
Thailand has a very strict drug smuggling policy which includes long jail sentences or death. Nolubabalo is the 12th South African this year to be charged with drug trafficking in Thailand.
Do you think this incident will draw more negative attention to lock wearers? What about airport security — will lock wearers be subject to additional scrutiny of their hair? Is this an invasion of privacy?
