Many of you may be too young to remember, or maybe you weren’t even born in August, 1974 when Beverly Johnson made history as the first black woman to grace the cover of Vogue magazine.

A lot has changed in the almost 40 years since that cover shot but amazingly, Johnson looks the same. She’s launched a new haircare line, Hair by Beverly, and she recently added a new television show to her long list of accomplishments. Beverly’s Full House launched March 31st on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Johnson recently took time to talk to hair with CurlyNikki.

“I don’t perm my hair. When I take my hair down, people don’t even believe it’s all mine!”, said Beverly Johnson.  ”It’s so thick and long. It’s crazy. Also, I’m proud to say, I have all of my edges, all of them,” she exclaims.

Johnson gives tips on wearing weaves and other protective styles as well as living a long healthy life. See the full story on CurlyNikki.com

It’s rare to see a black woman in the modeling business for this long with healthy natural hair. We can learn a lot from Johnson. Ladies, take note!

  1. I believe it.  I wore weaves for 5 years and now I have hair in my back.  However, during my weaving time, I tried Beverly’s weave and it did not work for me.  My hair is now sensitive and I cannot perm it.  The hair stylist uses hot comb and flat iron.  It’s a lot of work.  I miss the weave lol.
