Katie Holmes Files For Divorce from Tom Cruise After 5 Years of Marriage

It’s over for TomKat.  People magazine is reporting that Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from her husband Tom Cruise after 5 years and a daughter Suri, 6.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Cruise’s rep told PEOPLE: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children.  Please allow them their privacy.”

Cruise, 49, wed actress Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006.

The film ‘Winnie’ controversially depicts the life of Winnie Mandela (Jennifer Hudson), wife of Nelson Mandela (Terrance Howard) through her childhood, her husband’s 27-year incarceration, and her own year in solitary confinement. The biopic (directed by Darrell Roodt and, according to the trailer, is presented by Reverend T.D. Jakes) has been shown at movie festivals around the world.

High Court Upholds National Health Care Law

In a dramatic victory for President Barack Obama, the Supreme Court upheld the 2010 health care law Thursday, preserving Obama’s landmark legislative achievement.

The majority opinion was written by Chief Justice John Roberts, who held that the law was a valid exercise of Congress’s power to tax.

Roberts re-framed the debate over health care as a debate over increasing taxes. Congress, he said, is “increasing taxes” on those who choose to go uninsured.
