You’ve probably gotten used to me talking about celebrity women and their natural hair journey, but it’s now time to include men in the discussion.
The very talented and easy-on-the-eyes, Eric Benet has gone through more than one hair journey. He rocked locs early in his career and now sports a short cut with a fade at the bottom.
Benet talks to Curly NIkki about the women in his early life — his mom and sisters — and their hair. He says they often wore their hair natural but would straighten it for special occasions. And as a father, he preferred his daughter India not straighten her hair. “I ’ve just always thought natural was more beautiful,” said Benet.

After years of wearing locs, Benet decided to cut them. “When I cut them, I don’t know, I guess I had just reached another stage in my life. It was less about free flowing and became more about structure. This is what it represented for me… it’s not to say that people that have locs are just free flowing in the wind”, said Benet. “But for whatever reason, for me, I just felt like I needed a change. I needed a little bit more structure in my life and as that structure applied, it felt like I needed to cut my hair. That’s how it happened for me.”
I had the pleasure of meeting him backstage after a show and must say he’s quite the gentlemen. Check out the full story on CurlyNikki.com
