I attended the Hoodie Awards in Las Vegas this weekend. All I can say is: WOW. This was my first time connecting with Steve and the crew since they came on board at KBLX. Our PD Stacey Cunningham and I kicked things off at the White Party at Mandalay Bay Friday night. When we finally met with Steve Harvey himself, it was like kickin’ it with family! He is very smart, charming and down to earth. You can’t help but like him.
- Salli Richardson: GORGEOUS
- Morris Chestnut: growl!
- Sellita Ebanks: tall and gorgeous!
- Fun on the Blue Carpet!
Saturday night, the blue carpet was amazing! The star studded guests came thru in all their glory…but, the hoodie award nominees–the community leaders, teachers, business owners–were all stars that night as well. That is what the Hoodies are all about. Honoring ordinary people who are doing extraordinary things. It’s a WONDERFUL concept and just a lot of fun.
New Edition opened the awards show Saturday night and RIPPED it. Bobby Brown acted a fool (but that is to be expected), then the real stars were honored one by one. In between, there were lots of laughs from comedians George Wallace, Lavell Crawford, and Earthquake, who were presenters. Beauty in the form of Salli Richardson (who is STILL flawless), Morris Chestnut, and Sellita Ebanks, and Uplifting words and song from Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, and Marvin Sapp. Who could close out a show like that? None other than STEVIE WONDER.
After that, VIP after party with Doug E Fresh, THEN a pool party on Sunday with Robin Thicke and Keith Sweat!
And, after all that, you do know that Steve got up and did his show all by himself this morning. Talk about dedication!
It was an awesome weekend. I’ll be there next year. Will you?
