Khan is also rocking a hot new figure — down 60 pounds and looking fabulous.

Looking at some early pictures of Khan, you’ll see she’s always had a love affair with big, wild hair. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as a matter of fact, I Love It!

Soul Food Star Nicole Ari Parker Does the Big Chop

Although she’s a former model and has appeared in many movies, Nicole Ari Parker is probably best known for her role as an attorney on the Showtime series, Soul Food.

Parker stopped relaxing her hair about a year ago and recently did the big chop.

“My hair is just really loving being natural, being moisturized,” said Parker. “Our hair is so much more versatile than what we give it credit for.  We’re raised to immediately straighten it, fry it and never take the time to learn to work with it.  My hair can do so many more things now that it’s natural — I can wear…

Beverly Johnson’s Real Hair

Many of you may be too young to remember, or maybe you weren’t even born in August, 1974 when Beverly Johnson made history as the first black woman to grace the cover of Vogue magazine.

A lot has changed in the almost 40 years since that cover shot but amazingly, Johnson looks the same. She’s launched a new haircare line, Hair by Beverly, and she recently added a new television show to her long list of accomplishments. Beverly’s Full House launched March 31st on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Johnson recently took time to talk to hair with CurlyNikki.

“I don’t perm my hair….

We all remember Keisha Knight Pulliam from back in the day as the adorable Rudy Huxtable on the hit sitcom, The Cosby Show.

All grown up now and still actively working in Hollywood, you may be surprised to know that Pulliam is a natural girl! She’s been natural most of her life (except during college), and when her hair isn’t flat ironed, she has beautiful curly ringlets.

Pulliam sat on Curly Nikki’s couch to talk hair. “When I’m not working and I’m at home, my hair is curly 90% of the time,”…

When you think of the hit television show In Living Color, you no doubt think about the talented Wayans brothers — but let’s not forget about their equally talented sister — Kim Wayans.

Kim recently spoke with Curly Nikki about being natural, in fact she’s never had a relaxer.

“I’ve never had a perm,” said Kim Wayans. “My mom didn’t have that… we all wanted one of course, because everybody wanted the hair that swung, and this didn’t swing . She was very much about loving your natural hair and said to all of us girls that when you turn 18,…

How to Do a Twist Out with Bantu Knots

Posted on 18 Apr 2012 at 9:15am

Beginning with today’s post, we will feature “How-To Tuesday,” an instructional post with videos on how to wear your natural hair in different styles. Let me know if there are any styles you’d like to see featured.

Today’s how-to is creating a twist out with Bantu knots. The name Bantu knots is taken from the Bantu peoples of Sub-Saharan Africa. Bantu knots begin with sectioning and twisting a small portion of the  hair with two strands and wrapping the ends around the twisted section into small knots on the head. The style can be worn as the Bantu knots, or the knots and twists…

Who’s hair was that on Michelle Obama’s head?

Last week , the natural hair blogosphere went into overdrive when a photo of First Lady Michelle Obama wearing a halo of kinky curls hit the Internet.  Although Mrs. O looked stunning in the photo, it didn’t take long for us to realize that something about the picture seemed a little…off.

The photo in question came to the attention of blogger Maeling Tapp, author of Natural Chica, when her Twitter followers began sending her messages saying that Obama’s hair looked a lot like her own.  Sure enough, upon examination of the First Lady’s curly coif, Tapp discovered that it was indeed her…

Fake Hair Debate – What’s the Big Deal?

Posted on 27 Mar 2012 at 9:40am

Once again, a debate is brewing over natural and fake hair.

Refinery29 interviewed five stylish women to get their opinions on women who wear fake hair and why it’s such a sensitive subject.
