Usher is headed back to the big screen in an upcoming role as boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in the film Hands of Stone. The film is about Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán and also features Oscar winner Robert De Niro and Gael García Bernal.

In an interview with an English news outlet the Confessions singer talked about being selected to portray the boxing legend, Usher said, ”It was proper casting. I was selected. They approached me to do it. And all I had to was consider it.”

Usher is making his return to the big screen in a new film centered around Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán.

The 33-year-old singer will play Sugar Ray Leonard in Hands of Stone, scheduled to begin filming later this year. He will star alongside Robert De Niro and Gael García Bernal.

Usher says he’s been spending a lot of time in London preparing for the role.

“I’m in preparation for a very incredible role,” he told the BBC. “If you see me in the corners boxing, I’m doing that while working on this album.”
